What it is

What it is

Professor Matchmaker is a completely free iPhone and iPad app that helps college students find professors who match their learning styles and academic preferences.

Instead of relying solely on overall ratings, the app analyzes student reviews and considers what matters most to each student.

How It Works

Personalized Matching: Calculates compatibility percentages based on your individual learning preferences.

Teaching Style Analysis: Evaluates how professors teach, including lectures, assignments, and classroom expectations.

Workload Assessment: Considers homework, reading requirements, exams, grading practices, and course difficulty.

Student Review Analysis: Identifies recurring patterns, strengths, and potential concerns in student feedback.

Evidence-Based Recommendations: Explains why a professor may or may not be a good fit for you.

Apple Intelligence Integration: Uses on-device intelligence on compatible Apple devices to provide additional insights into student reviews.

Why it exists

Why it exists

Professor Matchmaker started because of my girlfriend.

I kept watching her struggle with the same problem every semester. She would spend hours researching professors, reading reviews, comparing ratings, and trying to make the right decision. And somehow, she'd still end up with professors who made her classes miserable.

It was frustrating to watch, especially because she was doing everything students are told to do. She was researching beforehand. She was reading what other students had to say. She was trying.

But a professor with a great rating isn't necessarily a great professor for everyone.

I started wondering why we were still relying on essentially the same professor-rating experience we'd had for years. Why was everyone being judged by the same numbers when everyone learns differently?

So I decided to try building something for her.

I wanted an app that actually considered what a student needed from a professor, rather than just telling them who was popular. I had no idea how much work that would involve, but I wanted to figure it out.

Eventually, I realized that if she was having this problem, other students probably were too.

In September 2026, I released Professor Matchmaker on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

I don't know if an app can ever guarantee someone a good professor. Probably not.

But if it helps even one student avoid the frustration I watched my girlfriend go through, then building it was worth it.

It started because I wanted to make her life a little easier.
